When Joy Grainger required a full knee replacement, her first choice was the Kemptville District Hospital, with Dr. Paul Kim as her surgeon. The Kemptville District Hospital is the regional leader in performing total joint replacement knee and hip surgery.
“My surgery went very well. Unfortunately, I was part of the one per cent of patients who experience blood clotting post-surgery.”
Joy’s condition required an emergency CAT scan, so she was taken by ambulance to The Ottawa Hospital. Joy was accompanied on the ride by KDH RN, Sharon Eves. “I was so grateful for having Sharon with me during that time. She kept me calm and I told her she would be one of my special people forever.”
Joy has since recovered from her emergency and is grateful for the care she received during surgery and for the swift and immediate handling of her post operation difficulties.
“I am so appreciative of all the hard work, care and compassion of the staff at KDH. I am a great supporter of the hospital.”
Joy recently made two donations to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation in honour of her anesthesiologist, Dr. D. Jones, and her nurse, Sharon Eves, in particular for the excellent co-ordination between Sharon and Dr. Jones at KDH and Dr. Kim at the Ottawa Hospital during the emergency transfer, through the Above and Beyond program at KDH. This program provides an opportunity for patients to recognize staff who have demonstrated excellent patient care.
“I wanted to recognize the great care at KDH, not only during my surgery but during the emergency situation I was in. The care I received at KDH was definitely above and beyond!”
Joy also wanted to express her thanks to Tracey Welsh-Frappier, housekeeping staff member, for her friendly and positive attitude to her daily routine and for sharing her many positive thoughts on KDH, which exactly matched her own.
Thank you Joy for sharing your experience with us and thank you for your kind donation to our Above and Beyond Program at KDH.
